Community Jameel was formally established in 2003 to continue the Jameel family's tradition of supporting the community, a tradition started in the 1930s by the late Abdul Latif Jameel, founder of the Abdul Latif Jameel business, who throughout his life helped tens of thousands of disadvantaged people in the fields of healthcare, education and improving livelihoods. Today, Community Jameel is dedicated to supporting social and economic sustainability, across the Middle East and beyond, through a range of initiatives.
Helping communities transform themselves
We do not define people by their problems, but by their potential. That’s why we invest in training, job creation, and businesses aimed at helping communities transform themselves. It’s also why we support and showcase art and artists to inspire and nurture people worldwide. We understand the importance of empowering the individual, and of fostering talent, to build a sustainable and self-sufficient society. Through our initiatives, we are dedicated to providing opportunities to members of the community and supporting them to achieve their dreams and to establish and advance their careers – to turn aspirations into a practical reality.
Together for good
We believe in a collaborative approach through partnership where every member can maximise their own specialist contribution – avoiding unnecessary and costly duplication of resources – and bringing these partners together for good. Through our strong relationships with global institutions — including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); the Victoria and Albert Museum in London; and the Grameen Foundation to name but a very few — and the impact of our programmes and initiatives across the globe, we continue to provoke positive change for the future.
